Cross country meet owes success to host of volunteers

Posted: Monday, September 10, 2001

Skyview High School was host to 25 schools Sept. 1 for this year's Cross Country Running Invitational.

Approximately 654 students ran and many also competed in the community race afterward. It was a nearly perfect day with enormous amounts of positive energy everywhere. Great kids working hard.

On behalf of the Skyview cross country team, I would like to publicly thank all those community members who come to help each year with this huge event: Bill and Sharon Radtke, Erin and Harry Lockwood, Craig and Susie Phillips, Mark and Libby Berezin, Bev and Rex Edwards, Pat Johnson, Mary Daugherty, Gloria Sweeney, Bob Jones, Jim Bennett, and Jan Standifer. Your knowledge and commitment are greatly appreciated.

I would also like to thank the Skyview staff members who kept things running smoothly, who have been indispensable in the past as they were this year: John Pothast, Allan Miller, Bill Holt and Wayne Cowan. Thanks also to those staff members who are new to Skyview: Matt Widaman, Allison and Blake Larson, and our new athletic director, Dan Creel. Good Job! Hope you had fun.

A big thanks to our nurses, Betty Miller and Jane Fellman, and also to the C.E.S. crew that responded in a timely fashion to our call.

Thank you to all the parents of the Skyview team who helped with the meet, especially Charlotte and Dave Harvey, who ran the concession stand, and all those who came out to support and cheer on all the hard-working kids from all over the state.

Finally, to our coach Kent Peterson and assistant coach Ruthie Sadler. Thanks for being there for the kids, running through the rain and the pain, with the bears both literally and figuratively, for teaching and encouraging both by word and by example.
