Michael Larry Daugherty died Saturday, Sept. 7, 2002, at South Peninsula Hospital in Homer. He was 57.
A memorial service will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday at the Homer Elks Lodge with the Rev. Floyd Seekins officiating. A private burial will be held in Hickerson Cemetery.
Mr. Daugherty was born June 27, 1945, in Orville, Calif. He attended high school in Arcata, Calif., and graduated from the FBI National Academy in Quantico, Va.
He worked in real estate in California, moved to Homer in 1972 and retired from his position as chief of public safety after 23 years of service. He also was a fishing guide, owning Chief's Charters.
Mr. Daugherty coached Homer Little League Baseball for many years and enjoyed fishing.
He was preceded in death by his son, Kevin Daugherty.
He is survived by his wife, Robin Daugherty of Homer; daughter, Gina Daugherty and her husband, Scot Walters, of Anchorage; granddaughter, Dakayla Walters; mother-in-law, Geraldine Steenblock of Homer; sister-in-law, Brenda Steenblock of Homer; brothers-in-law, Robert Steenblock of Petersburg and Terry Steenblock of Othello, Wash.; brothers, Paul, Joe, Ray and Dwayne Daugherty; and sisters, Christine, Rita and Oneida.
Memorials may be made to the family at P.O. Box 1298, Homer, AK 99603. Proceeds will be used to support Homer Little League and a memorial scholarship for continuing education for Homer students.
