On Tuesday, Mrs. Sotello's class was visited by the Kenaitze tribal members and cultural educators. They presented a lesson on agate pouches and helped the class to make them. Agate pouches are part of a tradition in the ancient Dena'ina culture that involves the making of a small pouch and finding an agate to put in it. This gesture is considered the ultimate "well wish" to give to another person.
On Thursday, the students will travel to the Nikiski beach to select agates for their bags. Then, at 3 p.m. they will travel to the Challenger Learning Center of Alaska to view the Starship 2040 exhibit. The exhibit enables visitors to experience what commercial space flight might be like 40 years from now.
