Oops! Sometimes I get the facts mixed up! The last time I posted my column I stated that the Montessori Preschool was a part of the Soldotna Montessori Charter School. They are two different entities! One more time, to get the facts right the Montessori Preschool offers a preschool program and there are spaces available. The school is located at 44875 Spruce in Soldotna. It's for children ages 3 through 5. For more details and information on tuition, call 262-2699. Thanks for all of your patience. I am sorry for the error!

If you think Girl Scouts is all about yummy cookies, well, you're right, but there's a lot more too! A proud parent, Venita Walker, has been a leader for six years and involved with her daughter, Caroline, 12, in Girl Scouts.

Caroline has been in seven years and is a cadet. As a parent Venita said, "Oh yea! I recommend Girl Scouts to other parents who have girls. It keeps girls going in a thousand directions. As a parent it has a great scholarship program, and it interfaces spiritually, physically, and morally with girls. It helps girls build teamwork and leadership. It builds self-confidence, friends, and respect for others."

Some of the fun things the girls in the troop have done have included going to a hay maze in October, service projects in the community, going to the Challenger Learning Center of Alaska and going on a mission and staying overnight in the center's dormitory.

While working on her Bronze Award, Caroline cut her long, long hair and gave it to Locks of Love, which is for children who are cancer patients.

Oh yes, she's sold some cookies too during her time! She's sold more than 3,000 boxes of cookies to hungry and happy customers! If you're interested in learning more, you may want to check out the Girl Scout Roundup on Sept. 22 from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Peninsula Center Mall in Soldotna. Girls ages 6 to 18 and adults interested in becoming scouts and leaders are invited. This is an opportunity to become your personal to best and prepare for the future. If you are unable to attend, but would like to learn more about Girl Scouts, call Joyce at 262-7616.

The Redoubt Elementary School Parent Teacher Association will hold its first meeting of the school year Tuesday at 5:30 p.m. in the library. Agenda items include filling the vacancy of vice president, committee review, chairperson (s) selection and more. Refreshments, door prizes and childcare will be available. For more information, call Monica Frost at 260-5849.

If you have news to share or know someone who does, let me know and I will be happy to contact them. For timely information, I need to receive it by Monday night of the week preceding the announcement. I'll do my best to get it in.

Have a great week!
