Homer resident Solvieg "Sandy" Olson died at South Peninsula Hospital in Homer on Sunday, Sept. 9, 2001. She was 83.
Ms. Olson was born on Aug. 4, 1918, in Minneapolis, Minn. She served her country in the U.S. Army, where she was wounded overseas and received the Purple Heart.
Ms. Olson lived in Alaska since 1948, having lived in Cordova, Valdez, Kodiak, Kenai and Homer. She worked as a bartender and was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars and the American Legion. She also enjoyed playing bingo.
Ms. Olson is survived by her daughter, Barbara Jacobs of Homer.
Arrangements were by the Homer Funeral Home.
