Chamber to hold candidate forum

The Homer Chamber of Commerce will host a series of candidates forums to help educate the voters for the upcoming elections. The one-hour forums will be held at noon at the Best Western Bidarka Inn. The city council three-year term and mayoral candidate forum will be today, the city council two-year term and one-year term forum is Sept. 18, and the borough mayor and assembly forum is Sept. 24. KPC council to hold meeting

The Kenai Peninsula College Council will meet at 6 p.m. Thursday at the Kachemak Bay East Campus. The public is welcome to attend. For an agenda, directions or more information, call 262-0330 or 235-7743.

Soroptimists to meet Thursday

Soroptimist International of the Twin Cities meeting is planned at 5:30 p.m. Thursday at the Peninsula Christian Center in Soldotna. For more information, call 262-4889.

Basketball registration planned

The Boys and Girls Club is registering fifth- and sixth-grade basketball league through Friday. The season runs from Oct. 14 through Dec. 7. Register in person at the Kenai Boys and Girls Club from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Registrations also may be faxed or mailed in. For more information, call the club at 283-2682.

Educator ice-cream social planned

The local Phi Delta Kappa Chapter will sponsor an ice-cream social for educators from 4:30 to 6 p.m. Sept. 18 at the Kenai River Center. There will be a $200 drawing for any Kenai Peninsula public educator assigned to a classroom from kindergarten through college. The funds are made available to support classroom projects, field trips and activities involving families.

League of Women Voters to host forum

A candidate forum for all seats in the Oct. 1 election will be held Sept. 19 at the Kenai Peninsula Borough Building in Soldotna. Candidates for school board will begin at 6:30 p.m., candidates for borough mayor at 7:15 p.m., and candidates for borough assembly will begin at 8 p.m. The public is invited to ask questions of the candidates. Open house slated at PenDOG

The Peninsula Dog Obedience Group will hold an open house to celebrate National Dog Week from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sept. 28 at its facility in Soldotna. There will be demonstrations in agility, tracking and the different levels of obedience, plus guest speakers and information ranging from guide dogs to what to do with your pet in a disaster.
