Health group to meet

The "Yes on Two-Health Care for You" group will meet at 7 a.m. today at Charlotte's in Kenai. The topic will be the hospital expansion and recruiting volunteers. For more information, call Amy at 260-5672.

Nutritional classes begin today

Colleen Deal of the University of Alaska Fairbanks Cooperative Extension Office will begin teaching a six-week series of nutritional classes from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m. today at the Kenai Peninsula Food Bank. Classes will be held Thursdays through Oct. 16. There is no fee. For more information, call Cindy at 262-3111.

Loston to speak at KPC

Dr. Adena Loston, NASA's associate administrator of education, will give a presentation from 6 to 7 p.m. today at Kenai Peninsula College in the student commons. Loston's topic of discussion will be NASA Education Enterprise, opportunities of college students.

Soldotna seniors to hold fund-raiser

The Soldotna Senior Citizens Center will hold its third annual fall roundup fund-raiser from 5 to 8 p.m. Saturday at the center. Activities for the evening will included a hickory smoked prime rib dinner and a grand door prize drawing for round-trip tickets for two on the Alaska Railroad to Denali. Live entertainment is scheduled, including the Spur Highway Spankers bluegrass band, Northstar cloggers, Silver Belle line dancers. Tickets are $16 for adults and $8 for children age 12 and under. Boys and Girls Club to hold auction

The Boys and Girls Club will hold its 16th annual auction at 6 p.m. Saturday at the Kenai Mall across from the club. The silent auction begins at 6 p.m., followed by a sit down dinner catered by The Chase is Over. Entertainment and a live auction also are planned. Items offered for bidding include artwork, tools, toys, cruises, trips and tours.

Cost for dinner is $35 or participants can reserve a table for eight for $400. Included with the cost of a reserved table are special seating, program recognition, wine and flowers. For more information or to purchase tickets, call 283-2682.

Hazard mitigation meeting set

The Kenai Peninsula Borough will hold a public meeting for a boroughwide all-hazard mitigation plan at 7 p.m. Tuesday in the Borough Assembly chambers.

The plan will describe the methods that the borough will use to reduce or eliminate the loss of life and property resulting from human caused and natural disasters.

Donations sought for Community Closet

The Independent Living Centers' Community Closet is in need of donations. Needed items are transfer benches, shower rails and low-vision equipment. Donations are tax deductible. For more information, to donate or if you have a need that could be filled, call Laurel or Heather at 262-6333.

United way annual kick-off planned

The Central Peninsula United Way will have its annual kick-off from 6 to 8 p.m. Sept. 18 at the Kenai Senior Citizens Center. There will be food, door prizes and a silent auction. The public is invited to attend. For more information, call Amy at 283-9500.

Child custody clinic scheduled

The Women's Resource and Crisis Center will hold a noncontested divorce custody clinic from 1 to 4 p.m. Sept. 18 at the Kenai River Center.

The clinic is sponsored by Alaska Legal Services. There is no fee. Preregistration is required by Wednesday. For more information or to register, call 283-9479.

Artists needed for harvest fund-raiser

The Peninsula Art Guild is accepting work for the Harvest Auction gala fund-raiser. The auction will take place Sept. 27 at the Kenai Fine Arts Center. Artists are able to receive 25 percent of the sale amount, if they wish. For more information, call 283-7040 or 262-1777.
