HOPE (AP) -- The body of a Hope man was found a mile downstream from where he had parked his truck to go fishing, Alaska State Troopers said.
Benny Dean Odgen's friends reported the 51-year-old man missing Sunday after he failed to return home from a fishing trip Saturday on the Sixmile River near Hope. His body was spotted by a trooper helicopter Monday afternoon.
Troopers, along with the Alaska Mountain Rescue members and three rescue dog teams, searched the area Sunday for seven hours. A group from Nova River Runners in Girdwood also assisted in the river search with rafts and kayaks. Rainy, windy weather prevented the use of a helicopter.
A dive team from Central Emergency Services in Soldotna returned to the area Monday and recovered the body after it was spotted by troopers.
The body was sent to the state medical examiner's office for an autopsy.
