Computer courses available

PCI Skills Resource Center will hold Excel classes through Thursday. Classes meet from 6 to 9 p.m. Quickbooks 2000 classes will run Sept. 18-21 from 6 to 9:30 p.m. Registration is required. For more information, call 283-4099.

United Way director to speak at Soldotna chamber

The Soldotna Chamber of Commerce will hold its weekly luncheon today at the Riverside House in Soldotna at noon. Evy Gebhardt, executive director of the Kenai Peninsula United Way, will speak. For more information, call 262-9814.

Kenai library closed for two days

The Kenai Community Library will be closed today and Wednesday for staff training. Books may be returned in the book drop.

Hospital volunteers to meet

The Central Peninsula General Hospital Auxiliary will meet at Central Peninsula General Hospital Wednesday at 1:30 p.m. Anyone interested in volunteering is encouraged to attend.

The auxiliary recently helped purchase an electric piano for use in the hospital waiting areas. In addition, it funds "How to Raise a Reader" literacy packets for newborns in conjunction with the Kenai Peninsula College Learning Center. The auxiliary also supports seniors going into the health-care profession by sponsoring health-care scholarships.

Registration for basketball offered

Registration for fifth- and sixth-graders interested in playing in the Boys and Girls Club Basketball League will be at the Kenai Boys and Girls Club, Wednesday through Friday. The cost is $46 for members and $66 for non-members; scholarships are available.

Support group for bereaved mothers to meet

The Share Support Group will begin meeting Thursday. The program is for woman who have experienced miscarriage, SIDS or other infant loss. Registration is required.

Senate candidate to speak at Nikiski chamber

The North Peninsula Chamber of Commerce will hold its weekly meeting at the Lighthouse Inn Thursday at noon. Senate District E candidate Mike Szymanski will speak. For more information, call 283-4202.

Kenai River Center to open

The grand opening of the Kenai River Center will take place at 2 p.m. Thursday. The center is located at Mile 1.5 Funny River Road, in Soldotna. Festivities will include a ribbon-cutting ceremony, dedication of the library to former Kenai Peninsula Borough Mayor Don Gilman, and presentation of the partnership award from Coastal America. Historical society begins new season

The Kasilof Historical Society will meet at the Tustumena School Thursday. The business meeting will start at 6 p.m. with the program at 7 p.m. The program will consist of a field trip.
