The Homer High School volleyball team came out on the winning side of a Region III/4A volleyball match Tuesday, defeating the visiting Skyview Panthers in five games.

The Panthers traded wins with the Mariners in the first two games of the match. Skyview opened up with a 15-12 victory in game one, but Homer quickly leveled the match with a 15-3 win in game two.

Skyview won a very tight third game 15-13 before Homer was able to tie things up again, this time with a 15-11 win in game four to force a decisive game five.

Chaunna Dietz got the Mariners off to a flying start in the final game with eight consecutive points from the service line. Homer's defense never allowed Skyview to score more than two or three points at a time, and Homer pulled out the victory with a 15-7 game five win.

Skyview, along with Region III/4A Southern Di vision foes Kenai and Soldotna, will return to Homer Friday and Saturday for the Peninsula Challenge.
