Kenai resident Reford James Brooks Jr. died Tuesday, Aug. 31, 2004, at his home in Kenai. He was 47.
A memorial service was held in his honor for his family and close friends from Washington, California and Nevada at the Fish Lake Valley Community Center in Dyer, Nev., at 2 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 2. Additional memorial services will be held at 6 p.m. today, Sept. 12, at Kalifonsky Christian Center on Kalifornsky Beach Road.
Mr. Brooks was born Jan. 11, 1957, in Lone Pine, Calif. After he graduated, he enlisted in the U.S. Army, serving in the 101st Airborne Rangers, Screaming Eagles. From 1986, Mr. Brooks moved to and from Alaska until making permanent residency nearly seven years ago.
He worked as a fisher, logger and construction foreman. His hobbies included fishing, camping and helping others.
"My dad never passed up someone in need. He will be greatly missed," his daughter said.
Mr. Brooks was preceded in death by his father, Reford James Brooks Sr. and sister, Alice Ann Brooks.
He is survived by his daughter, Pantha Loray Brooks of Willow; grandson, Miles; mother, Pantha Lorrie Brooks of Dyer; brothers, Johnny Richard Brooks of Santa Rosa, Calif., and Steven Jay Brooks of Dyer.
Arrangements were made by Peninsula Memorial Chapel in Kenai.
