Panthers take third in Peninsula tourney

The Skyview Panthers placed third in the eight-team Peninsula Challenge Saturday in Homer Friday and Saturday.

The Panthers won their first two matches over Grace Christian and Soldotna before dropping their semifinal match with eventual-champion Chugiak two games to one. Skyview then lost its rematch with Grace, which lost 3-1 to Chugiak in the final. For their efforts, Skyview's Anna Bonebrake and Amber Kunz were named to the all-tournament team.

The Soldotna Stars finished the tournament with a 2-2 record, beating Homer and Heritage Christian. SoHi had three players, Christa Kennedy, Kala Fowler and Megan Needs named to the all-tournament team.

The Homer Mariners went 1-2 on the weekend, beating Heritage before dropping consecutive games to Chugiak and Grace. Homer's Bailey Lowney and Rachel Bornheimer were named all-tourney.

Juneau 3, Kenai 1 (25-18, 19-25, 25-18, 25-22)

Juneau 3, Kenai 1 (16-25, 25-18, 25-16, 25-20)

Kenai was swept by both Juneau and Kodiak Friday and Saturday at Kodiak. The Kardinals were beaten by three identical match scores of 3-1 in the four losses.
