Sterling resident Hugh Baxter Riley died Tuesday, Aug. 29, 2006, at Stone Brook Inn Assisted Living in Soldotna. He was 82.

No services are planned.

Mr. Riley was born Jan. 30, 1924, in Oregon City, Ore. He was a paper tester and member of the Pulp and Paper Workers Union at the Crown Zellerbach Mill in West Linn, Ore. He retired from the mill in 1985.

Mr. Riley was a member of the B.P.O.E. in Oregon City.

“After retirement, Hugh spent most of his time on the Oregon Coast. He was a park host for the Oregon State Parks system and enjoyed the outdoors, campfires, sunsets and visits with his many RV friends. He was an avid reader and loved talk shows and politics. He had a passion for Oregon and its history and frequently traveled the state,” his family said.

Mr. Riley was preceded in death by his wife, Gleneva.

He is survived by his daughters, Debbie Debnam of Sterling and Kristine Rigdon of Molalla, Ore.; brother and sister-in-law, Don and Palma Riley of West Linn, Ore.; and several grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Arrangements were made by Peninsula Memorial Chapel.
