Region remembers Sept. 11
At the Kenai Fire Department on Saturday, 343 miniature American flags stood in rows on the lawn as a remembrance to the firefighters that died during 9/11.

Well-known Kenai attorney Peter Finnell Mysing passed away Sunday night, Sept. 5, 2010, in an automobile accident. He was 59.

Longtime Alaskan and Kenai resident Mary F. Stroh died Sept. 3, 2010 quietly at home with her family by her side. She was 83.

Bears earn split
The Kenai River Brown Bears opened the 2010-11 North American Hockey League campaign by splitting a two-game series with the Alaska Avalanche of Palmer. The Avs won Friday's game 5-2 at the Palmer Ice Arena before Kenai River came back to win Saturday's contest 3-0 at the Subway Sports Center in Anchorage.

Kards blank Kodiak: Bears rush for just 69 yards, Kenai causes 4 turnovers
Kenai Central's defense held visiting Kodiak to 69 rushing yards and forced four turnovers as the Kardinals blanked the Bears 29-0 in Northern Lights Conference action Saturday at Ed Hollier Field. With the win, the Kards improve to 4-2 overall and 3-0 in the league. Kodiak falls to 2-4 and 0-3.

Seward girls, boys nab 2nd in Palmer
The Seward girls and boys cross country teams picked up a pair of second-place finishes on Saturday in the Class 1-2-3A portion of the Palmer Invitational.
