ANCHORAGE (AP) -- A Fairbanks breast cancer organization is $250,000 richer these days.

The money comes from a charity fishing tournament sponsored last month by Sen. Frank Murkowski and his wife Nancy at a fishing resort on Prince of Wales Island. The Murkowskis recently presented a check to the Breast Cancer Detection Center, according to a news release from the senator's office.

The funds will help support the center and its mobile detection van, which travels throughout the railbelt. The van also visits rural villages by barge. The center also has X-ray equipment that can be flown to villages.

According to Murkowski's office, more than $1.5 million has been raised in the seven years the annual tournament has been held.
