ANCHORAGE (AP) -- The Eagle Village Council has been selected to receive federal money to help make tribal communities safer.

The council is slated to receive money as part of the Department of Justice's Office of Community Oriented Policing Services -- also known as COPS. The program is targeted at youth.

The grant is the first part of a nearly $3 million initiative to improve Native American communities.

The Eagle Village Council will share nearly $240,000 with five other Native communities in the Lower 48.
