Hospice offers grief support for bereaved mothers

The Hospice of the Central Peninsula will conduct a "share" support group for women who have experienced miscarriage or have lost an infant to SIDS or for other reasons. The program begins today and registration is required. The hospice also will offer grief support programs for those who have lost loved ones to homicides, for widows and for others. United Way to kick off fund-raiser

The Kenai Peninsula United Way will hold its central peninsula kickoff fund-raiser today at the Kenai Senior Center from 5:30 to 7 p.m. The event will inform the public about the United Way and its role in the community and will include music, refreshments and the awarding of door prizes. Phillips president to speak at fund-raiser

The Friends Luncheon Fund-raiser for the Boys and Girls Club will take place at Paradisos restaurant at noon today. Kevin Meyers, President of Phillips Alaska, will be speaking.

Picnic planned for Habitat project

The Central Peninsula Habitat for Humanity will host a "Paint and Picnic" work day at the Strawberry Road (Gene Street) work site from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday. Hot dogs and hamburgers will be provided. For more information, call 283-7797.

Bridges board of directors to meet

Bridges Community Resource Network Inc. will hold its regular board of directors meeting at 145 Kasilof Ave. in Soldotna at 10 a.m. Saturday. The meeting is open to all Bridges members and interested members of the community.

First aid, CPR class offered

Outdoor club to hike to Juneau Creek Falls

The Kenai Peninsula Outdoor Club will hike to Juneau Creek Falls Sunday. Hikers will meet at Fred Meyer coffee shop at noon and should bring a sack lunch and water, along with hiking boots or sneakers. All are welcome. For more information, call 260-4078.

Seminar for referees scheduled

Anyone interested in refereeing for hockey this season should attend the hockey referee seminar at the Soldotna Sports Center Sunday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Participants will need skates, a helmet and a whistle. Attending a seminar is required for certification as a hockey referee. Anyone age 12 or older is welcome. Registration forms are available at Redline Sports. Library offers genealogy research resources

The Family History Center Library in Soldotna offers resources for genealogy research. Assistants are on hand to provide help. The library is open every Wednesday from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. and Thursday from 6 to 9 p.m. Sunday hours are 4 to 7 p.m.

Land parcels available

The Alaska Mental Health Trust Land Office is offering 80 parcels of land for sale through a sealed bid auction. The parcels are mostly existing subdivision lots in Fairbanks, Nenana, the Matanuska-Susitna Valley, Kachemak Bay, Ketchikan, Thorne Bay and Petersburg. Bids will be accepted until 5 p.m. Oct. 27.
