Let representatives do their job of looking out for Alaskans

Letter to the Editor

Alaskans, get out your ledger books. On the left, list the purported ethics violations that Sens. Ted Stevens, Lisa Murkowski and Rep. Don Young are being accused of. On the right side, list all the good things they have done for this state and its people. You will run out of paper for this category.

As a lifelong Alaskan, I expect my elected officials to be ethical, honest and have integrity. I do not expect perfection. It will be devastating and tragic for Alaska if this politically motivated harassment results in Sen. Stevens and Congressman Young not being re-elected.

This is a fragile time in Alaska oil industry and gas line blues, and a mining company trying to destroy a renewable natural resource in Bristol Bay. Let our delegation get back to work and focus on Alaska's business.

We've robbed Sen. Murkowski of a home on the Kenai. Stevens and Young are being harassed by association with Bill Allen and jealousy from their ineffective peers in Congress. I would rather have representatives who are smart enough to make good business and personal deals than those who would be too paranoid to be effective due to the witch hunt and crowd mentality that is running rampant in Alaska.

The media coverage defies description. Two of our late and great Alaska journalists, Kay and Larry Fanning, are turning over in their graves.

How much of our tax dollars are being spent on this travesty?
