Festival inspires musicians

For two weeks in August we had the pleasure of visiting Alaska as the professional string quartet in residence at the Kenai Peninsula Orchestra Summer Festival. Since we live in Tucson, Ariz., we were thrilled to leave the heat for the pleasures of cool spruce forests, Kachemak Bay and the friendly people of the Kenai Peninsula.

Little did we know what an exciting musical adventure we were in for. From playing with outstanding local musicians Maria Allison, Mark Wolbers and JulieAnn Smith to watching the orchestra take shape under the outstanding direction of Mark Robinson, we were amazed by the expertise and passion of your local musical community.

An incredible number and variety of concerts were presented over two weeks, culminating in a fabulous gala orchestra concert.

The orchestra musicians of all ages and backgrounds came together and worked unbelievably hard (as did a dedicated core of volunteers) to put on a concert of artistry and excitement.

We returned to Tucson inspired by the love of music and fantastic hospitality we experienced. Thanks to all concerned.

Support your orchestra. It is a true gem.
