Coast Guard helps sinking yacht

JUNEAU (AP) -- The Coast Guard rescued a 70 foot yacht Friday that struck a rock northwest of Ketchikan.

The captain of the Discovery called for help, saying his vessel was taking on 350 gallons of water per minute, Petty Officer Darrell Wilson said.

A Coast Guard helicopter brought pumps to keep the yacht afloat, and the cutter Woodrush dispatched a small boat with a team to make temporary repairs. The seven people aboard weren't immediately evacuated, Wilson said.

The captain made arrangements to have the Discovery towed into Ketchikan.
