The lifelong guideline for this week is trustworthiness -- to be honest about things and feelings with oneself and others.

Volunteer training is today at 9:15 a.m. and 5 p.m. This is mandatory training for those wishing to work in the school.

Parent Information Night will be from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. Thursday.

There will be an open house and ice cream social from 6 to 7:30 p.m. Tuesday.

School photos are Sept. 29.

First-graders have been drawing a still life with oil pastels and studying the work of Henri Matisse. In science, they are developing the skills of observation, data collection and prediction. They used seeds and plants to develop thinking skills. Book orders are due Friday.

Second- and third-graders are working in literature centers with guided and independent reading, word journals and researching the life cycle of a plant. They have weighed fruits and vegetables in science lab, collected data and observed plants under a microscope. Art work involved creating a clay tile while learning about wedging, slip, scoring and relief. Upcoming field trips include going to Mrs. Shelden's house Friday to harvest potatoes, honey and birch bark and visiting the wildlife refuge Monday.
