Area chambers set schedules

Kenai Peninsula Borough mayoral candidate John Williams will speak at noon today at the Nikiski Chamber of Commerce luncheon at Ohana's Family Restaurant. Next week's speaker will be Tom Boedeker with the United Way. For more information, call Judene at 776-5551.

Deadline for business ideas today

Friends of the Homer Library and the Kenai Peninsula Economic Development District (KPEDD) are sponsoring a contest for new business ideas.

The contest is open to anyone living on the peninsula. Cash prizes will be awarded; $1,000 for first place; $600 for first runner-up; and $400 for second runner-up. The top three finishers, plus the next two best entries will be given the option to create a business plan and have it submitted to select business investment groups in Alaska and the Lower 48.

Professional assistance will be provided to develop the business plans. Entry forms are available at KPEDD in Kenai, Wells Fargo in Homer or the Homer Chamber of Commerce. Deadline to submit is at 5 p.m. today. Winners will be announced by the end of September.

Business workshops set

The Small Business Development Center will hold a workshop on how to find sources of capital from 9 a.m. to noon, Wednesday in Suite 16 at the Red Diamond Center, 43335 Kalifornsky Beach Road.

The workshop costs $25 to attend. Preregistration is required no later than one day before the workshop. To register call 714-2331.

CISB wants totes returned

Fishermen participating in the Insulated Tote Quality Assurance Program sponsored by Cook Inlet Salmon Brand Inc., are asked to return the totes to Willow King at the Kenai Landing Dock by today. Other return times are by appointment only.

Suitcases for kids kicks off

The National Association of Relators is looking for donated new or like new suitcases for Suitcases for Kids.

It is an international non-profit organization that collects and distributes new and gently used suitcases, duffel bags and backpacks for foster children.

Area board members are collecting for the peninsula's Division of Family and Youth Services. To make a donation or arrange pick-ups or drop-offs, call Val Lewis at 262-1851.
