Homer resident Petreena Marie Getty died Monday, Sept. 12, 2005, after a long illness at South Peninsula Hospital in Homer. She was 69.
A private family ceremony will be held at a later date.
Ms. Getty was born May 22, 1936 in Alaska. She lived in Alaska most of her life and in Seldovia from 1993 until moving to Homer in 2004. She worked for the state of Alaska Department of Public Assistance until she retired.
She enjoyed crocheting, needle point and baking.
"My mother was also my best friend. She had a wonderful sense of humor which could brighten the day and bring smiles to many. She loved to be around people and was always willing to listen or lend a hand," her daughter said.
Ms. Getty was preceded in death by her son, John Jeffrey Getty. She is survived by her daughters, Dawn Spangler and Paula Brill, both of Ripley, Tenn.; grandchildren, Jennifer Evon of Portland, Ore. and Heather and Eric Spangler of Ripley; brothers, Fred Elvsaas of Seldovia and Herman Elvsaas of Ballard, Wash.; sisters, Inga Cafferty of Seldovia and Lucarria Hampton of Anchorage; great-grandchildren, Elizabeth, Michelle, Carlie and Brianna, all of Ripley; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Memorial donations may be sent to the family at 7210 Edith Nankipoo, Ripley, TN 38063.
