POW-MIA ceremony slated
The Veteran's of Foreign Wars Post No. 10046 and Ladies Auxiliary will host a POW- MIA lighting remembrance ceremony at 7 p.m. Friday at the post at 134 N. Birch St. in Soldotna. It is open to the public.
Garage sale fund-raiser planned
A community garage sale fund-raiser will be held from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday in the gymnasium at the Sears Elementary and Kaleidoscope School of Arts and Sciences charter school in Kenai. Proceeds will be donated to the American Red Cross to help with relief efforts for Hurricane Katrina.

Fall fling planned
The Soldotna Historical Society will host its annual fall fling at 11 a.m. Saturday at the Homestead Museum on Centennial Park Road.
The board of directors will meet at 9 a.m., followed by a brief business meeting. Lunch will be hot dogs, hamburgers and beverages provided by the board. Members are asked to bring a salad or dessert. Following lunch, Marge Mullins will give a slide presentation of early Soldotna. It is open to the public. AWG dancers, actors sought
Auditions for dancers and actors for the Arctic Winter Games opening and closing ceremonies will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at the Renee C. Henderson Auditorium. Performers ages 13 and older should arrive early to complete audition forms. For more information, call Chris Morin at 283-7603.
School fund-raiser set
The Hope School will sponsor "Hope Healthy Futures 5-mile run or 2-mile walk" at 11 a.m. Saturday. Registration is from 8:30 to 10 a.m. Entry fee is $10. Admission for children under 17 is free. Awards will be given to the top three finishers in each age group for the run. Lunch will be served after the race. For more information, call Pam Skogstad at 782-3521.
