Volunteer orientation scheduled

Kalifornsky Beach Elementary School will hold volunteer orientation Tuesday at 8:15 a.m. at the school. For more information, call 262-1463.

Christian education program to be offered

The United Methodist Church of the New Covenant will start its fall Christian Education Program at 4:30 p.m. Wednesday at the church. Young people from kindergarten through middle school age are invited to participate in crafts and a lesson. Dinner will be served at 5:30 p.m. The church choir season, under the direction of Cherie Brewer, will begin at 6 p.m. The church is in Kenai across from the Boys and Girls Club. Mushroom identification workshop to be held

To learn more about local mushrooms, an all-day workshop will be offered from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday with mushroom expert Dominique Collet. The morning will be spent collecting mushrooms in various locations, and the afternoon will be spent at the Sterling Senior Citizens Center identifying the findings. Bring a cardboard box with flat bottom for collecting and meet at the senior center. To register or for more information, call the Kenai Watershed Forum at 260-5449. The program is free and open to the public. The class is limited to 30 participants.

Community blood drives planned

The Blood Bank of Alaska's Kenai Peninsula Center will hold a blood drive at the Kasilof Community Church from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday. Drink caffeine-free liquids and eat a good meal before donating.

The blood bank also will hold a drive at the Anchor Point Senior Citizens Center from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sept. 27. For more information on either drive, call 260-5672.

Domestic violence education to be offered

The Women's Resource and Crisis Center will start a 13-week domestic violence education and support group from 1 to 2:30 p.m. Sept. 27. The groups will define domestic violence, its effects on children, the cycle of abuse, healthy vs. unhealthy relationships, safety planning and other related topics. There is a $5 fee for each session, but scholarships are available. For more information, call 283-9479.
