Longtime Homer resident Russell F. Malone died Tuesday, Aug. 12, 2003, at his home in Homer. He was 57.

A memorial Mass will be held at 3 p.m., Friday, Sept. 19, at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, 238 Jenny Lane in Homer. A gathering will be held at 6 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 18, at the Characters Lounge in Homer. His ashes will be scattered privately by his family.

Mr. Malone was born Feb. 15, 1946, in Cleveland, Ohio, to Andy and Ethel Malone. He served three years in the U.S. Army, from 1964-67, with two of those years being in Korea. He was a resident of Alaska since 1974 and had lived in Homer since 1979. He attended the University of Alaska Fairbanks and was retired from the pipeline for 10 years. He worked for the Alaska Department of Fish and Game as a marine biologist and went out on king crab boats with Data Contractors Inc.

An avid fisherman, Mr. Malone loved the outdoors and particularly appreciated Alaska's natural beauty.

He was preceded in death by his father, Andy, in 1963.

Mr. Malone is survived by his mother, Ethel Malone of Lonoke, Ark.; and his brother, Merle Malone of North Little Rock, Ark.
