Brown Bears down Blues

The Kenai River Brown Bears started the 2010 North American Hockey League Showcase Tournament with a 4-1 win over Springfield on Wednesday at Schwans Super Rink in Blaine, Minn. The Brown Bears improve to 2-1 on the season. They take on Texas today at 2 p.m. Alaska Daylight Time.

Brown Bears goaltender Josh Benton stopped 22 of 23 shots. Benton has been between the pipes for both Kenai River wins. He has denied 38 of 39 total shots through two games -- a .974 save percentage.

Kenai River took a 1-0 lead in the second period on a power-play goal by Jesse Ramsey. Raymond Stenehjem added the assist.

The Blues tied the game less than five minutes into the third period on an unassisted goal from Clay Scott. The Brown Bears responded with a pair of goals in a 1:36 span. The first, which proved to be the game winner, came from Doug Beck. Brad Duwe and Brett Lubanski had the assists. Bobby Murphy scored shortly after with Zack Capozza getting the helper. Duwe sealed the victory with an empty net goal with just over a minute to play.

Duwe leads all Brown Bears with five points through three games. Beck and Lubanski each have four.
