FAIRBANKS (AP) -- The body of a Venetie man missing for more than a week has been found, Alaska State Troopers said Monday.

A searcher from Fort Yukon found the body of Jeremiah Peter Sunday evening near a Christian River hunting camp 50 miles east of Venetie.

The body was to be taken to Anchorage for an autopsy.

Peter, 27, was hunting last Sunday with Lance Whitwell, 35, also of Venetie, when after a night of drinking Whitwell woke up to find that Peter was gone. Whitwell searched for his companion but couldn't find him.

Alaska State Troopers and the Civil Air Patrol also searched the area.

Peter's gun was found in the river over the weekend.
