Reading is the focus this year at K-Beach Elementary. The school is "under construction" as students, staff and parents read books, bricks are added to the school house.
The Title I program has started two programs. The first is a reading program for second-graders, titled "SQUIRT" sustained, quiet, uninterrupted reading time and begins at 7:15 a.m. The second program is an after-school tutoring program for sixth-graders.
The school nurse, Tracy, would like to thank volunteers for their time helping with student screenings.
The third-grade classes will travel to the Soldotna Historical Museum on the first day of autumn. The class outing will conclude with a fall walk.
The sixth-grade classes will raft down the Kenai River. Volunteer drivers still are needed. For more information, call Mrs. Murphy by today.
The second-grade classes have planted radishes and have been playing team-building games.
Mrs. Tobin's class is studying the world of ecosystems. The class visited Homer's Bishop Beach and would like to thank guide Carmen Field for her participation. Next week, the class will continue its studies with an overnight trip to the Alaska SeaLife Center in Seward.
