An important parent-community consolidation informational meeting will begin at 6:30 p.m. Thursday in the North Star library. The meeting will discuss the consolidation of Nikiski and North Star elementary schools that is set to begin at the start of 2004-05 school year. Participants will be encouraged to give input on the proposed plan.
The fourth-, fifth- and sixth-grade teachers have leveled reading classes, and the four upper-grade classes have been divided into seven small leveled reading classes.
On Sept. 6, Linda Zimmerman's fourth- and fifth-grade class held a car wash fund-raiser and raised $534. The class also will sell Home Interior candles in October. The donations will help students pay for a mission at the Challenger Learning Center of Alaska and a Kenai Fjords tour field trip that is planned for later in the year.
North Star will run preschool once a week from 9 to 10:30 a.m. on Fridays this year. It's a free program offered for children ages 2 1/2 to 5 years old. Parents attend preschool with their child. Everyone is welcome. There will be a parents' planning meeting at 3:30 p.m. Friday in room 1 at the school. For more information, call the North Star school office.
