Kenai celebrates with barbecue

The City of Kenai will be recognizing Scott Hamann, Jacob Carlson and Jacob Pass for their contribution to the enhancement of the Scenic Bluff Overlook at a picnic and barbecue to be held Monday at noon at the Scenic Bluff Overlook located behind Louie's, near the Kenai Senior Center in Kenai. The event is open to the public.

Kenai plans park upgrade

The public is invited to participate in the first planning meeting for a Municipal Park Playground upgrade, scheduled for 6:30 p.m. Tuesday at City Hall. Call 283-8233 for more information.

Fall carnival on tap

A Fall Carnival will take place from noon to 3 p.m. Saturday at the Kenai United Pentecostal Church, Mile 16.5 Kenai Spur Highway. The event is free and will include food, games, hay rides, bouncy slide, candy rain and more. Call 907-283-5860 for more information.

Recovery Month to be celebrated

September is National Recovery Month. The Serenity House and Central Peninsula Hospital will celebrate it Sept. 18 at the Soldotna Sports Center from noon to 4 p.m.

This is a community celebration and the event is free. Games, food, poster contest, cake walk, and carnival style booths are some of the planned activities. For more information, call 714-4521.

Child passenger safety events planned

National Child Passenger Safety Week is Sept. 18-25. Don't miss the many free Child Passenger Safety educational events that are being held on the Kenai Peninsula.

Visit one of the inspection sites to have a certified child passenger safety technician inspect your child's safety seat-and provide hands-on advice and instruction on how to properly secure your child in your vehicle.

Car Seat Check Up Events: Sept. 15, 11 a.m.-3 p.m., CES/Soldotna Fire Station No. 1; Sept. 17, 1-3 p.m., Kenai Fire Station; Sept. 18, 10 a.m.-2 p.m., informational booth at Lowe's Safety Days; Sept. 20, 1-3p.m., Nikiski New Fire Station Mile 26.5 Kenai Spur Highway; and Sept 25, 11 a.m.-3 p.m., CES/Soldotna Fire Station No. 1.
