Chamber to hold luncheon

The Kenai Chamber of Commerce will hold a luncheon at noon today at Paradisos. It is $10.50 inclusive and open to the public. This session of "Meet the Candidates" forum is hosting candidates for Kenai Peninsula Borough Assembly. The confirmed candidates are Betty Glick, Tim Navarre and John Davis.

Transportation construction workshop slated

The Small Business Development Center is presenting a workshop entitled "Getting Certified with Alaska Department of Transportation, Disadvantaged Business Enterprise Programs and Bonding Issues." The workshop we be held from 1 to 4 p.m. Thursday at the Red Diamond Center, Suite 16.

Katherine Anderson, a representative from the Alaska Department of Transportation and Public Facilities will be available to answer questions, along with Mike Goode, owner of Goode Construction, who will provide the business perspective to becoming DBE certified. The cost is $15.

RC&D District to hold meeting

The Kenai Peninsula Resource Conservation and Development District will hold its meeting at 3 p.m. Thursday at 110 Trading Bay, Suite 160, in Kenai. Topics will include a progress report on the ongoing livestock slaughterhouse feasibility study.

The meeting is open to the public, and all interested persons are invited to attend. For more information, call 283-7494, ext. 106.

Veterans meeting to be held

American Disabled Veterans monthly meeting will be held at 6 p.m. Thursday at the former NAPA building on the Kenai Spur Highway in Kenai. For more information, call Glenn Schrader at 283-4359.

Candidates forum planned

The League of Women Voters will sponsor a school board, mayor and assembly candidate forum Thursday at the Borough Building in Soldotna. The school board forum will begin at 6:30 p.m., the mayor forum at 7:15 p.m. and the assembly forum at 8 p.m. For more information, call Marge Hays at 262-3908.

Sterling Community Club to meet

The Sterling Community Club will hold its monthly meeting at 7:30 p.m. Thursday. The meeting will be held at the log cabin on the corner of the Sterling Highway and Swanson River Road.

Auxiliary to host dinner

The Fraternal Order of Eagles Auxiliary No. 3525 will host the Alaska state madam president at a dinner at 6:30 p.m. Friday at Paradisos in Kenai. Madam President Nancy Ball of Ketchikan will meet and greet auxiliary members and their spouses. Any member who wishes to attend the dinner can call 283-4359.

SeaLife center to sponsor coastal clean up

The Alaska SeaLife Center will sponsor Seward's annual Coastal Cleanup Day on Saturday. Check-in begins in the center's lobby at 10 a.m. Cleanup participants may turn in their collected garbage for "weigh-in" from 1 to 4 p.m. at the ASLC loading dock. Refreshments will be provided.

This year will mark the center's fourth year of sponsoring Seward's participation in the cleanup effort. For more information, call the Alaska SeaLife Center at (907) 224-6300.
