Kenai Central cows Service

Posted: Sunday, September 18, 2005

Bill Chimphalee and the Kenai Central High School football team dismantled Service High School Saturday, defeating the Cougars 50-0 in a nonconference game on the Anchorage Football Stadium turf.

Chimphalee was in the right spot at the right time all day for the Kardinals, intercepting three Service passing and picking up 106 return yards and one touchdown from his defensive back position, running for 120 yards and three touchdowns as a running back on offense, and catching a pair of passes for 39 yards — all adding up to 265 all-purpose yards for the Kenai sophomore.

Kenai was able to control the line of scrimmage on defense, holding Service to under 100 yards rushing, and the Kardinals' offensive line opened up holes for Kenai ballcarriers to gain 268 yards.

Brandon Miles, who finished with 79 yards rushing, scored on a 3-yard run in the first quarter. Austin McLeod hauled in an 11-yard pass from Kenai quarterback Tyler Chappell early in the second quarter, and Chappell scored on a 2-yard quarterback keeper to close out the half.

Miles scored on a 14-yard run in the third quarter before Chimphalee notched four straight touchdowns, a 30-yard interception return in the third quarter and runs of 6, 22 and 5 yards in the fourth quarter.

Kenai, now 4-2 overall, will put its 3-0 Northern Lights Conference record on the line when Homer, also 3-0 in the NLC, visits Saturday.
