Alaska is the only state in the Union that does not have a Safe Haven Law in place. This law enables a person to safely surrender a baby shortly after birth at a safe location without fear of prosecution by the law.
I encourage you to contact your local legislators and encourage them to act on House Bill No. 29 introduced by Rep. Gabrielle Ledoux from Kodiak. It is currently sitting in the House Rules Committee and must be brought to the floor for a vote. The special session of the Legislature starts Oct. 18.
We are one of the wealthiest states in the Union. Let's put our effort and resources to save innocent children from death.
For more information, check the state Web site at http://housemajority.org/spon.php?id=25HB29. Florida was one of the first states to enact this law, check out: www.safehavenfornewborns.com.
Please, don't let one more baby die a senseless death. Take a stand and take action.
