Vote for whom you want

Posted: Friday, September 18, 2009

Term limits for local government are not a good idea. Term limits restict your right to vote for whom you want, keep good people from doing a very important job, waste talent and are detrimental to the area in which they are enforced.

The Kenai Peninsula is made up of districts too small for term limits to do any good. The majority of the voters know the candidates, know the issues and know who is or is not doing a good job. If they are doing a bad job they will be voted out of office and if they are doing a good job they will be retained to continue their good work, this is as it should be.

It takes a while to learn how to do the job, follow the rules, learn parliamentary procedure, make the proper contacts, all of which are necessary to get things done. If good, experienced people want to keep serving they should be allowed to -- we all will be better off for it.

Protect your right to vote for whom you want, vote no on proposition one.
