KASIGLUK (AP) -- A toddler from the village of Kasigluk was accidentally shot to death over the weekend by his six-year-old brother, according to Alaska State Troopers.
The victim was identified as three-year-old Jeremy Kelly.
Jeremy, his brother, their aunt and grandmother were preparing to take a small boat for a berry picking trip Saturday morning when the shooting occurred, according to troopers.
Jeremy was standing near the bow of the boat while his brother was playing with the trigger of a rifle that had been left in the boat by the boys' grandfather after a fishing trip that morning. The gun went off and the bullet deflected off the side of the boat and then struck Jeremy in the right side.
The boy was taken to the Kasigluk Health Clinic, where he died. No foul play is suspected, trooper said.
Kasigluk is a few miles west of Bethel in the Yukon-Kuskokwim Delta.
