Katharine "Kaddie" Sherman Harvey

Former Soldotna resident Katharine "Kaddie" Sherman Harvey, of Eureka, Calif., died May 29, 2001, in Eureka. She was 80. A graveside service was held at Lone Mountain Cemetery in Eureka.

Mrs. Harvey was born May 29, 1921, in New York City to Lyle and Kathleen Nugent Sherman.

She lived in Carson City, Nev., from 1960 until 1976 and in Soldotna from 1976 until 1984, before moving to Eureka.

Mrs. Harvey was the secretary to the chief and first woman employee of Warren Engine Co. No. 1 Volunteer Fire Department. She was the founding member and first director of the Ormsby Association of Retarded Children and also worked for Harold Jacobsen Insurance in Carson City. She was a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution and the Episcopal Church.

She was preceded in death by her sister, Millicent.

Among her survivors are her sons and daughters-in-law, Thomas and Judy, of Eureka, James of Eureka, Peter and Mary Jane of Twin Falls, Idaho, Phil of Los Angeles, Andrew and Helaine Jesse of Carson City; daughter Nannette Harvey of Eureka; 10 grandchildren and one nephew.
