John Pope, a passenger on a Pen Air airplane that made an emergency landing at the Kenai Municipal Airport on Monday afternoon, calls to arrange alternate plans after his flight failed to get him to Dutch Harbor, where he works on a boat as a chef. Danny Seybert, chief operating officer for Pen Air, said the airplane, which left from Anchorage, was routed to Kenai after a warning light indicated smoke had been detected inside the cargo compartment. Engineers are still investigating to find out whether there actually was smoke and, if so, what may have caused it, he said.
