Jr. Classic goes swimmingly

Posted: Wednesday, September 19, 2007

Thanks to all who made the Kenai River Jr. Classic such a huge success. On Aug. 15 you made it possible for 76 youth who may not normally get an opportunity to go fishing to fish on the Kenai River. Youth from the Boys and Girls Clubs of the Kenai Peninsula, Big Brothers Big Sisters of Southcentral Alaska, our local Young Marines and children from Elmendorf Air Force Base who had a parent who was deployed were all smiles.

Twenty-two organizations and individuals were boat sponsors, 17 donors opened their wallets and hearts to support this wonderful event, and 41 volunteers provided hundreds of hours of their time ensuring this event was so successful.

Without these three groups the Junior Classic would not have been possible. We already are looking ahead to next year's third annual Classic and to once again be hosted by our very own Sen. Lisa Murkowski. Thanks again to all of you who are so devoted to our youth.
