The speedway is a couple miles away from Dover Air Force Base, which is one of the nation's top staging areas for the military. The base also serves as the clearinghouse for the victims of the attack at the Pentagon. Because the military has a greater presence in the area, hotel rooms are at a premium. ... Tire management is the key to surviving an afternoon of Dover's tall banking and concrete pavement. Tire wear is so severe it usually takes two sets of tires per tank of gas.
