Many contribute to 'Invite's' success

The Kenai Central High School Swim and Dive Booster Club would like to thank all the volunteers who made our Kenai Invite Swim-Dive Meet on Sept. 15 such a success. Eight teams participated in this event and we would like to thank the officials and computer "experts" from Soldotna, Skyview and Homer plus the parents and students from KCHS who helped make the meet run smoothly. Many local businesses bought ads for our Invite program to financially assist the team. We appreciate the support this community provides for our kids!

Business support for PTA appreciated

The Sterling Elementary PTA thanks Peak Oilfield Services for its generous donation of funds that enabled us to purchase a new bicycle for our PTA membership drive. Our goal this year is 100 members. We were able to reach 71 through our membership drive at the school's open house.

We would also like to thank all the volunteers who brought in and helped with setting up and cleaning the gym.

The winner of the bike was Susan Nelson. Thank you, Susan, for joining our team. We look forward to working with you this year.

Program encourages summer reading

We would like to thank everyone who has helped to make the first K-Beach Elementary Summer Reading program a success. In order to keep student reading scores up over the summer, we asked students to read and keep track of their minutes. Teachers at the school did a great job motivating and encouraging students to keep reading over the summer.

The students needed to bring their recorded minutes to school the first week of school in order to be part of the reading assembly that was held Sept. 14. There were over 80 participants, including teachers.

Students and teachers who read over 900 minutes received a T-shirt with the summer reading program emblem. The students, regardless of how many minutes read, received books and a bookmark and a certificate with their picture on it.

We want to thank the Soldotna Rotary for funding the T-shirts, Agrium and VFW Auxiliary for funding the books, the K-Beach PTA for taking pictures and making certificates and the staff for their assistance and support on this successful summer reading venture. We look forward to even greater participation next year.
