I'm writing this letter to inform everyone on the peninsula of a blessing in my life and yours, as well.
The person I speak of is Dr. Alex Russell, local pediatrician. Dr. Russell has been my children's pediatrician since the day they were born, however, now he is so much more than a doctor to me and my family. He is now and will always be our hero.
Two years ago, Dr. Russell saved my son Dalton from suffering when he sent us to Providence Hospital in Anchorage, where my son was diagnosed with leu-kemia.
If it hadn't been for Dr. Russell's fast acting professional knowledge and concern, we may not have found out as soon as we did, which could have been so much worse on Dalton if action wasn't taken so immediately.
Dalton is doing great in treatment and has a little over a year to go, but there are still those days when scary things happen, and we call Dr. Russell and he sees us immediately and always makes it better. He is never too busy for us.
So, Dr. Russell, we just want you to know we love you and pray for you every night and will for the rest of our lives.
You're our hero.
Donna, Dalton and Ember Lohrkes, Kenai
