Even before the doors opened at Central Peninsula Hospital in 1971, philanthropy played an important role in the development of health care services available locally.
From donated materials and labor, to significant personal financial investments, it took private and public resources to bring the dreams of our pioneering physicians and residents to fruition.
In that same spirit, a group of longtime peninsula residents came together with the administration and board of the hospital to act upon a common goal to expand health care services and support available here.
When they first met just over three years ago, the shared vision of that group was to create a foundation with the goal of raising funds to help the people of the peninsula when their lives were disrupted by illness or injury.
As a result, the Central Peninsula Health Foundation, or CPHF, was established and the board adopted their mission to support the hospital by seeking innovative partnerships and creating resources for the health of our communities.
From providing direct financial assistance to patients in need, to bringing new technologies and services to our medical community, CPHF is designed to act as a conduit for its donors to have a lasting impact on the development of our health care system and the lives of those who rely on it.
The foundation is working closely with the hospital to set a focus for its efforts over the next three to five years. As CPH Inc. puts the finishing touches on its strategic plan and considers opportunities for growth and expansion of medical services, the foundation is engaging with donors to assist in meeting the most critical needs.
The three key areas being considered for future growth are cardiology, oncology and behavioral health and, while there is much more work to be done to determine the feasibility of expanding those services, the focus seems to be in the right place.
For what they already have done, and what they will help bring to the Kenai Peninsula in the future, the individuals and businesses contributing to CPHF are helping to provide the care our residents need close to their homes and families, and they are making our community a better place to live.
