Children's group planned

The Soldotna United Methodist Church will hold an after-school program from 4 to 5:30 p.m. Wednesdays. Children may arrive as early as 3:30 p.m. Children in grades kindergarten through fourth may attend. Youth in grades five and up will be used to help.

The curriculum is called "Live Big" and help children coming to know the love of God through Jesus, music, art, theater, dance, laughter, sign language, discussion, imagination, entertainment, sight, sound, graphics, hands-on activities, stickers, games, crafts, snacks, Bible stories, worship, prayer and helping students grow as children of God by taking what they learn into their everyday lives.

Children's Bible club offered

Sterling Baptist Church will begin a weekly children's Bible club from 6:30 to 8 p.m. Wednesdays at the church on the Sterling Highway and the corner of Swanson River Road. Some of the planned activities include games, prizes, Bible stories and songs. Youth in grades kindergarten through sixth may attend. For more information, call 262-4711.

Soldotna Bible study slated

Soldotna Day Aglow's Beth Moore Bible study on Daniel continues at 10 a.m. Wednesdays through Dec. 5 at Peninsula Christian Center at the corner of Cohoe and Farnsworth in Soldotna behind The Salvation Army. The topic will be how to develop integrity in an enticing world and explore prophecy from the time of Daniel through the second coming of Christ.Coffee, fellowship and a door prize drawing will be held at 9:30 a.m. Baby-sitting will be provided.

Clothes Quarters open

The Clothes Quarters is open from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Wednesdays at 225 S. Spruce St. in the back of Our Lady of Angels Catholic Church in Kenai. The store sells clothes and free trade coffee. For more information, call Margaret at 283-9371 or Joan at 283-4555.

Thursday Bible study set

Kenai First Baptist Church holds the Bible study "A Woman's Heart: God's Dwelling Place" at 10 a.m. Thursdays in the church fellowship hall. Child care will be available. For more information, call Carole at 283-7772 or Joy at 283-7672.

Grief support offered

Soldotna United Methodist Church holds a "Life Love Loss" support group from noon to 1 p.m. on the first and third Monday of the month at the church at 158 S. Binkley St. Any type of loss is open for discussion in the group. Attendees are asked to bring a brown bag lunch.

Financial study group slated

Financial Peace University will hold 13-week study groups that teach attendees how to approach their finances from Biblical principals on Tuesdays at Kenai Fellowship Church. The two-hour meetings will consist of a video presentation by Dave Ramsey followed by workbook group question and answer sessions. Some personal homework assignments will be given. Some of the topics will be saving for college, saving for retirement, credit card debt, stewardship of money and learning how to control money resources.

It is open to the public. The cost is $99 for those who do not finish the course or free for those who complete it.

Church seeks volunteers, begins Bible study

North Star United Methodist Church is seeking volunteers to help with the breakfast program at Nikiski North Star Elementary School. Church members volunteer on Mondays and Lighthouse Community Church members volunteer Fridays. Five volunteers are needed for Tuesdays and Thursdays and three are needed for Wednesdays.

The church will hold a 34-week disciple Bible study from 10 a.m. to noon Tuesdays. Participants will need to prepare three to four hours a week and meet for one two-hour session a week. Breaks are taken at holidays. Disciple two and three studies also are being planned.

Old Testament seminar set

The Soldotna Church of the Nazarene will hold a "Walk Through the Bible" (old Testament) seminar from 6 to 9:30 p.m. Oct. 19 and from 9 a.m. to noon Oct. 20 at the church at 229 E. Beluga Ave. Preregistration is required. The deadline to register is Oct. 4. The cost is $17 per person.

Seminar on the Catholicism offered

Community members interested learning about the Catholic faith may attend the Discipleship Days conference at 10:30 a.m. 1:15 p.m. and 2:45 p.m. Sept. 28 and 29 at Lumen Christi High School on Jewel Lake Road in Anchorage.

On Sept. 27 Sr. Nancy Murray, O.P. (sister of actor, Bill Murray), will portray the medieval yet modern life of St. Catherine of Siena. Murray has traveled the world with her performance about the 14-century mystic, saint and doctor of the church who spoke to popes and princes.

Parish nursing workshops offered

Parish Nurses of Alaska and Northwest Parish Nurse Ministries in collaboration with Providence Health System Alaska will sponsor two training courses for nurses interested in parish ministry.

Parish nursing focuses on whole-person care. The first course will be offered at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Church in Soldotna Oct. 11 through 13 and Nov. 1 through 3.
