Longtime Nikiski resident Samuel Edward Welton died Friday, Sept. 15, 2000, due to a house fire in Wasilla. He was 14.
Memorial services will be held at 3 p.m. Sunday at the First Baptist Church in Kenai. Pastor Dean Nichols will officiate. Burial will follow the service at 5 p.m. at the McGahan Cemetery in Nikiski.
Samuel was born Nov. 12, 1985, in Victoria, Texas. He moved to Alaska on Aug. 1, 1988. He began his education at the Pioneer Peak School in Wasilla; he attended North Star Elementary School in Nikiski in 1994 and furthered his education by attending the Nikiski Middle School. Samuel was a member of the First Baptist Church in Kenai.
"He had made a commitment and accepted Jesus as his Savior and enjoyed reading his Bible regularly." the family said.
"Samuel enjoyed soccer, skateboarding, snowboarding, theater and loved being a comic and computer wiz. He was deeply devoted to his friends and family.
"Samuel had immense love for his friends and family and touched many lives with his joy and laughter. He will be greatly missed as his spirit will always be with us in our hearts."
Samuel is survived by his mother, Suzette Welton; father, Dennis Welton; sister, Bree Welton; brother, Jeremiah Welton; half-brother, Tobey Welton; half-sister, Lacey Guedry; grandmother, Mary Pope; aunts and uncles, Linda Richards, Gail and Bill Harvey, and Tom and Hazel Jones all of Wasilla;
Arrangements were by Peninsula Memorial Chapel.
