ANCHORAGE (AP) -- The National Rifle Association announced Friday it had endorsed Republican Frank Murkowski for governor.
Murkowski and his running mate, state Sen. Loren Leman, R-Anchorage, both received ''A'' ratings from the gun-rights group, the highest possible grade in the race.
''They've been 100 percent solid, forever,'' said Brian Judy, NRA spokesman in Sacramento.
Murkowski and Leman also received the backing of the Alaska Outdoor Council. The council advocates gun rights as well as hunting and fishing rights for its members. The group may be best known for leading the fight against a subsistence hunting and fishing priority for rural residents.
