Houston topples Seahawks

The Hawks dealt the Seahawks a 60-6 setback Saturday in a Great Land Conference game at Houston.

The loss drops the Seahawks to 2-1 in GLC play while the Hawks improve to 2-1 in the conference. Both squads have one conference game remaining.

Taylor Richey score four touchdowns for the Hawks. Bart Elhard scored the lone Seward touchdown on a 35-yard pass from Ryan Gardner.

Nikiski 44, ACS 14

The Nikiski High School football team turned in a sterling performance Saturday, defeating Anchorage Christian Schools 44-14 at Anchorage Football Stadium in a Great Land Conference game.

The win pushes the Bulldogs to 3-0 in the conference standings. The Bulldogs are now alone in first place with an inside track on one of the two small-schools playoff berths.

Travis McGahan led the Bulldogs with a pair of rushing touchdowns and added a 59-yard interception return for a third score. Billy Anderson continued to work his magic on special teams, returning the opening kickoff of the second half 85 yards to solidify Nikiski's lead at 30-14.

Nikiski's Josh Winters also continued to run strong after sitting out several games due to injury. Winters carried the ball 20 times for 142 yards for the Bulldogs and scored a pair of touchdowns.
