READS Primary

The students and staff were all smiles last week. Individual pictures were taken, and the students participated in their first physical education class at the Kenai Recreation Center.

Welcome to the seven new kindergartners, Kayla McVeigh, Fionna Heath, Jonathan Hawkins, Josiah Luze, Jasmine Carter, Tristan Bulot and Adaya Pollock. All these students attended the summer reading program at the school in June and are doing a fantastic job learning their phonics.

Currently, there are two kindergarten positions available. For more information or to register, call the school.

Hooray for the first- and second-graders. The second-graders have completed their first reading unit on a chapter book. The first-graders have reviewed their phonics and actively are reading in groups. All have passed their first spelling test.

The first show-and-tell will be this week. Students are encouraged to bring something to share with their classmates about the four seasons, the five senses or harvest.

The first field trip will be next week to the Butler's home construction site. Students will explore the many facets of construction, including site preparation, electrical, plumbing, framework, concrete and foundation work and tools. The students are looking forward to an interesting discovery time.
