Junior Miss seeks volunteers

The Alaska Junior Miss program is seeking volunteers for the state program to be held in February. An informational meeting is planned for 6:30 p.m. today at 155 Smith Way, Suite 102, in Soldotna.

CANS film festival returns

The Kambe Theatre in Kenai will provide free admission to its movies and a junior-sized popcorn today for the donation of three canned food items to benefit the Kenai Peninsula Food Bank at the Kambe's annual CANS Film Festival. For more information, call 262-6111.

Teen night slated

North Peninsula Recreation will host a Teen Night for youth ages 13 to 18 Friday at the Nikiski Community Recreation Center. Activities will include open gym, foosball, pool, ping-pong, video games and movies. The cost of admission is $2 per person. For more information, call 776-8800.

Boy, girl scouting training slated

The Tustumena District of the Western Alaska Council, Boy Scouts will hold leader training on the following dates and times: Basic cub leader training at 1 p.m. Saturday at the Kenai River Center in Soldotna. For more information, call Steve Coen at 283-1699.

Central Peninsula Girl Scouts will offer new leader training at the Studio 2B level from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday. The location will be announced. Swim classes available

Registration for Nikiski pool's fall beginning swim sessions will begin at 1:30 p.m. Monday at the pool. Space is limited. Classes will be at 1, 3 and 4 p.m. from Oct. 4 through 20. For more information, call 776-8800.

Hospice training announced

Hospice of the Central Peninsula will offer volunteer training in October. Training will be from held from 6 to 9 p.m. Oct. 17, 18, 20, 24 and 25 and from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Oct. 22 at the Grace Lutheran Church in Soldotna. Space is limited. It is open to the public.

Popcorn fund-raiser begins

Cub Scouts and Boy Scouts in the Tustumena District of the Western Alaska Council are selling Trails End popcorn to earn money to help purchase uniforms, fund activities and pay for camp. To locate a pack or troop in the Kenai, Soldotna, Seward, Homer, Nikiski, Ninilchik or Tustumena areas, call Steve Coen at 283-1699.
