Food safety class offered for food handlers

The Alaska Department of Environmental Conservation is sponsoring classes on serving safe food on Monday from 1 to 5 p.m. at the Iliamna Room of the Central Peninsula General Hospital and Tuesday from 2:30 to 6:30 p.m. at the Central Peninsula Sports Center. Small business development center offers class

A workshop entitled "Disadvantaged Business Enterprise Certification Process is being hosted by the Kenai Peninsula Small Business Development Center Monday at the CARTS building on Kalifornsky Beach Road from 9:30 a.m. to noon. The workshop is free and is for anyone that is a minority, holds 51 percent ownership and has an interest in federal government contracts. For reservations, call 262-7497.

Disaster relief training offered

An American Red Cross orientation and introduction to disaster relief class will be held Tuesday at 6:30 p.m. at Bridges Building in Soldotna.

Remembering Sept. 11

Hospice Grief Support Program will sponsor "Circle of Friends," a special time for the community to grieve America's losses on Tuesday from 7 to 8:30 p.m. at the hospice office at 312 Tyee St., Soldotna.

Young Marines host information night

Alaska Young Marines will hold an information night on Tuesday at 7 at the Soldotna Elks Lodge. Parents, potential recruits and families are welcome.

School board candidates address Kenai chamber

First aid and safety classes available

The American Red Cross is offering community first aid and safety classes on Wednesday, Thursday, Oct. 6, 17, 18, 20 and 27. Topics include rescue breathing, obstructed airway, CPR procedures for all ages and basic first aid. All or any of the components may be taken. Prices vary. Soroptimists board to meet

Soroptimists of Twin Cities board meeting will be held Thursday at 11:30 a.m. in the conference room at the First National Bank of Anchorage in Soldotna.

Interagency council resumes meetings

The council will continue its monthly meetings beginning Thursday, from noon to 1 p.m. at the Kenai Peninsula Food Bank.

Counseling board meets

The Central Peninsula Counseling Services board of directors meets at 5 p.m. Thursday at 506 Lake Street, Kenai. The public is invited.

Chinese auction benefit to be held

There will be a Chinese auction benefit held Saturday at 7 p.m. at the Decanter Inn in Kasilof to raise money for disaster relief in New York. Groceries, gas and other items donated by Spenard Building Supply, NAPA and others will be up for bid. All proceeds will go to the relief effort. Crisis intervention training offered

The Women's Resource and Crisis Center is offering a four-day class, Oct. 2-5, from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m., at the Kenai River Center. Topics include domestic violence, sexual assault, volunteering with shelter clients, helping others help themselves and eliminating violence in our community. College credits are available through Kenai Peninsula College. The class is required for those interested in working with WRCC clients. For more information or to register, call 283-9479.

Assistance available for child care providers

The Child Care Food Program offers reimbursement to assistants for some costs related to serving foods meeting USDA requirements. For more information, call Jennette Browning, child care food program coordinator, at 283-4707.
